#ACEOAPRIL FAQ

Answers to some frequently asked questions... please do get in touch if you still want more information!

FAQ: FAQ

SO WHAT IS #ACEOAPRIL?

It’s a challenge that runs through the month of April. To participate, you must create a piece of art which is 2.5 by 3.5 inches in size every day (or as often as you can!). You can use any medium, draw any subject, it just has to be that size.
Once your art is done, share it online using the hashtag #ACEOApril.

CAN I DO DIGITAL ART?

You can, but make sure you’re setting your canvas to the correct size. The challenge with #ACEOApril is about how you cope working at a tiny size, so if you can, try to keep this in mind when creating your pieces.

WHAT THE HECK IS AN ACEO?

ACEO stands for Art Card Editions and Originals. The idea of an ACEO is that it’s designed with the intent to be sold, so it’s an amazing way for artists to create tiny original art that’s more affordable for fans.
An ACEO is very similar to an ATC (or Artists Trading Card). In fact, the only true difference is that ACEOs are sold, and ATCs are traded between artists.

CAN I TRADE MY ACEOS?

Absolutely! The challenge may be called ACEOApril, but this is only so that working artists don’t feel pressured to give away their work if this may stop them from paying their bills! If you want to trade your pieces, then go right ahead!

WHAT SHOULD I DRAW?

Whatever you like! However, if you have trouble coming up with ideas, then from 2019 there will be an optional prompt list to help you get started!

WHERE DO I GET THE CARDS?

There are pre-cut cards online (definitely on Amazon, but likely on other hobby sites as well). The pre-cut ones tend to be a light watercolour paper with some texture.
You can also cut your own cards from any other surface.
As they’re designed to be cards, it’s recommended you use something that is, well, card. Paper can feel a little bit too flimsy, but if that’s all you have, don’t let it stop you! You can always back your completed pieces onto something later!

WHERE CAN I SHARE MY COMPLETED PIECES?

Anywhere on Social Media!
Artists are already sharing on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Vero and YouTube, but if you use something else, feel free!
There is also a group on Facebook!

I’M STILL NOT CONVINCED. WHY SHOULD I JOIN THE CHALLENGE?

So many reasons!
1 – Small art takes less time, so you get the feeling of achievement from finishing something, but for far less effort than with a larger piece of art.
2 – Art and creativity are like muscles. If you don’t use them, you lose them. On the other hand, the more you create, the more energy you have to create! Daily challenges are a great way to get in the habit of making things!
3 – The ACEO/ATC community is one of the most encouraging and loving you could ever meet.
4 – If you’re trying to build a following, joining in these challenges can be a great way to connect with other artists and a wider audience!
5 – Most important – it’s fun! Honestly, give it a try! You won’t regret it.
